Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

My amazing Mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2014. It caught us completely off guard, not only because she is so fit and healthy but also because we have no family history of the disease. At first it seemed fairly straight forward, surgery and radiation and then we would get on with life as usual. But the biopsy results post surgery showed that the cancer was a more aggressive type than first expected and would require over a year of treatment via chemo, radiation etc.

Knowing my Mum would very soon be a baldy, I decided I too would shave my head. Not only to keep my Mum company, but also to bring attention to some important facts. While being 'breast aware' and 'knowing your risk' are important, breast cancer can affect anyone. Regardless of how healthy you are, whether or not you have a genetic predisposition or how rigorously you conduct your self examinations, mammograms are the best and most reliable way to detect breast cancer. I gave my Mum the choice of which breast cancer charity she would like me to raise funds for and she chose the McGrath Foundation in support of, and thanks to their Breast Care Nurses who are a vauable and important source of support for women and families facing breast cancer. Breast Care Nurses are an amazing source of knowledge and are an extra person to touch base with, ask questions and helping hand to guide women through the many stages of beast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

I will be shaving my head during December 2014, I am yet to choose an exact date. Please donate a small amunt, not only to see my naked head, or to show your support for my darling, brave, beautiful and strong Mum but so all women faced with breast cancer have the same access to a Breast Care Nurse that my Mum has been blessed with.

McGrath Foundation

The McGrath Foundation raises money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. Our highly qualified nurses help individuals and their families experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support, for free.
From the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses are there to help. While over 110,000 families have been supported since 2005, more nurses are needed to meet the growing rate of breast cancer diagnosis in Australia.
With your help, no one misses out on care. Visit www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au to find out more.
